COVID-19 Preparedness & Response Planning

Covid-19, or Coronavirus, is now a global concern. This past week, we received customer inquiries regarding Buchanan’s plan should Covid-19 affect our office staff and/or driving fleet and how we would/could ensure service would not be interrupted.

Buchanan’s Management Team will view new information from the following resources as it becomes available:

  • The Center for Disease Control
  • The World Health Organization
  • The Indiana State Government / Indiana Department of Education
  • Information provided by Congressman Jim Banks
  • Mayo Clinic

Buchanan is prepared to work through the Covid-19 & many strains of influenza/ viruses by leveraging the health measures easily available, maximizing our technology and, if necessary, calling on our 9,000+ carrier relationships to prevent service failures for our customers.

To keep illness, of all kinds, to a minimum, please observe the following guidance provided by the Indiana Department of Education. While written for students, this guide is applicable to employees in the workplace. It is our hope that our customers will follow the same guidelines in allowing their employees to stay home when needed and prevent illness from spreading to the driving fleet. RESPONSE & COMMUNICATION:

In response to employee concerns, the following has been established to streamline Buchanan’s response to Covid-19 (and the many other strains of influenza, etc. that are circulating this season).

NOTE: Sick/ PTO time will be utilized, per the employee handbook, through the HIGH level of response. Only in level a SEVERE level response will Buchanan’s attendance/sick/PTO policies be revised.

Communication of response level will be made by Buchanan Management via the Friday Memo, Hub intranet and via email and Qualcomm, if necessary.

BUCHANAN HAULING & RIGGING, INC. RESPONSE:

  • March 6, 2020: Response level: Guarded
    • Distribution of communication to all employees & drivers via email, shared on Facebook, available to customers
    • Hand sanitizer, face masks & supplies for drivers ordered and sent to all company locations
