FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Buchanan hosted seven college students for the first Buchanan In Action event that allows students the opportunity to see the world of trucking first hand.
Students began the day having coffee and donuts with Geary & Becky Buchanan. They got to know each students and discussed the trucking industry and the opportunities within it. Students were then divided into two groups and sent to the Operations and Logistics Centers where they sat next to a Buchanan professional and were 'in the action.' Students observed real loads, real customer service, calls with real drivers and observed the interaction within each department.
Lunch was provided and with it, the opportunity to network with the executive and management teams.
After lunch, students observed in the opposite area (operations/logistics) than they had in the morning hours. Gaining exposure on both sides of the business provided students with a better understanding of the industry and the opportunity to consider themselves working for Buchanan in the future.
Interviews were offered for students interested at the close of the event.
UPDATE: One of the seven students in attendance were hired from this event.
